Bringing Back the Florida Room
A COMMON FEATURE in older Florida homes, the Florida room, usually with slatted glass windows and terrazzo flooring, was intended to take advantage of cool breezes in the summer and ample sunlight in the winter. When air conditioning became commonplace, many Florida rooms were converted into hermetically sealed glass porches or just left unused. This Florida room was restored to take full advantage of our subtropical climate. It's interior design was inspired by the indoor/outdoor lounges of Southeast Asia. The space was furnished with the following pieces:
